When signal X, K , Ka and Ku alerts have been detected, the indicator X, K, Ka or XK (for Ku signal) will appear together will a number which indicate the strength of the signal; 5 will indicate strongest signal, while 1 will indicate a weakest signal.

During VG-2 or Spectre I or IV+ alerts, the letter “V” will appear. It will be steady during VG-2 and blink during Spectre I or IV+. For safety alert, the indicator “S” will appear.

Do take note that you detector can be spotted by Spectre IN + RDDs but is invisible to VG-2 and Spectre I RDDs (radar redactor detectors). You can choose whether to be alerted to VG-2 and Spectre I and IV+ RDD signals. The default setting is for VG-2 and Spectre I & IV+ alerts off.

For Pop alerts, the letter “P” will appear while for laser signal, “L” will appear.

Besides the indicator, when a signal is alerted, a distinctive alert tone for the different types of signals will also be heard. For the X, K, Ka and Ku signals, the alert tone will be faster as you approach the source of the signal. You need to be on full alert when this happen as it indicates that you are approaching the enforcement office. You can adjust the volume of the alert according to your likeness.

For the radar alert, you have the options to choose the types of alerts you want to see. For example, you can set to view either X, K or Ku bands. The default setting is X and K band on.

Pop Gun Detection

The Cobra XRS 9370 has the ability to detect the latest Radar Gun Pop (super-fast-instant-on) mode.

The Pop Mode Radar Gun is a single-pulse Doopler radar that is a feature of a K and Ka (Bee III Ka radar gun) band Instant-On radar gun. It uses a single, short-time pulse to measure the target vehicle’s speed.

The Pop mode receiver senses Pop signals beyond the effective range of Pop radar guns. As the Pop mode receiver is so sensitive, you are advise to limit its usage to highway and rural driving.

Pop Alert will alert you to Pop radar signals and while giving you the alert, the device will continue to detect other signals. The default setting is with the Pop Detect off.

With the IntelliMute feature, you can virtually eliminate all false alerts when you are moving slowly or when you stop. How this work is by setting the Cobra XRS 9370 to be sensitive to the revs / RPM of your engine. When this is set, no alerts will be heard whenever you are moving below the set limit.

However, do take note that this may not work with certain vehicle as it can’t sense the engine’s revs. If that is your car, it is advisable to switch to Auto Mute and City Mode to reduce unwanted alerts.

The Cobra XRS 9370 lets you set the device to a city or highway mode. When driving at city of densely populated area, it is advisable to switch to City mode as your device may pick up conflicting signals such as automatic door openers and microwave towers.

The default setting is Highway mode and this is indicated with “h” in the indicator. When City mode is set, the alphabet “c” will appear.

UltraBright Data Display Brightness

The brightness of the device can be set by pressing the Dim button. There are 3 brightness levels you can set – Dim, Dark and Bright. By pressing the Dim button several times, you can set the brightness to your preferred level. The default setting is Bright.

Auto Mute Mode

Whenever any alerts are heard, you can momentarily turn off the alert by pressing the Mute button; pressing the Mute button again will bring back the alert tone.

With the Cobra XRS 9370’s auto mute feature, all alert tones will be lowered after 4 seconds of detecting the signal. You can manually turn off this Auto Mute mode by pressing the Mute button while no alert is occurring.

If you are blasting your radio at full volume, you may have problem hearing the alert tone as it can come on very quickly and then tone down within 4 seconds.

The IntelliMute Pro feature lets you shutdown the device automatically to prevent detection by radar detector detectors (RDDs) such as VG-2, Spectre I and Spectre IV+ when driving at slower speeds.

The Cobra XRS 9370 will remember all settings once it is set for an indefinite period of time even when it is not being used.

The Cobra XRS 9370 is small and compact measuring 4.15” (H) x 2.83” (W) x 1.33” (D) and weighing only 4.72 ounce. It is small enough and will not block your view when driving.

You have 2 options to install your Cobra XRS 9370 – on the windshield or on the dashboard.

To get the best performance for the device, you are advised to mount it to the center of the vehicle and as low as possible on the front windshield or on the dashboard.

From my experience, it is best to place it on the windshield as it sticks. Installing the XRS9370 on the dashboard may be problematic as most modern cars do not have flat dashboard. If the dashboard is not flat, there is tendency for the device to come out when you are driving.

Auxiliary Audio Jack

The Cobra XRS 9370 is equipped with auxiliary audio jack which you can connect to external speakers. When this is done, the internal speakers will be connected. If you are connecting to an external speaker, make sure that the volume is not too loud or you may get a shock whenever the alert tone comes on.

It is advisable to remove or conceal the detector whenever you park to prevent any unwanted break-in or theft.

Is it Legal to Own a Detector?

It is no longer against federal law to receive radar transmissions with your Cobra XRS 9370 detector. The Communications Act of 1924 guarantees your right to receive radio transmission on any frequency. Local laws that contravene the Act, while illegal, may be enforced by your local law enforcement officials until and unless they are prohibited from doing so by federal court action.

Red Light Camera and Speed Camera

The Cobra XRS 9370 will not pick up any red light camera.

As for speed camera, if it is shooting in front of you (pointing at your front plate), the device will pick up the signal. However as most U.S. speed cameras are rear facing, since not all states require front plates, generally your detector will not pick up any signal until you’ve passed it. By the time your device pick up this signal, it is already too late and you have been caught if you are speeding.

Cobra XRS 9370 Review – Customer Review

At the time of this writing, the customer review is 3.9 out of 5 stars. There is a mixture of messages coming from these reviews as some just love it while others are not so impressed with this device.

From my own experience, whenever you are driving at city of highly populated area, it is best to switch to City mode to reduce the number of alerts. When driving at highway, I’ve also encountered a few false alarms but it is bearable.

After using the Cobra XRS 9370 for some time, I’ve learned to differentiate the false alarm which is frequently intermittent and lasted only a few seconds. For the genuine alert, it is loud, steady and unbroken in most cases. Well, I think if you use it for some time, you too will be able to differentiate for genuine alert from the false ones.

  • False alarms
  • Plasticky
  • Annoying beep volume at times
  • No GPS

The Cobra XRS 9370 will provide sufficient protection again radar/laser by the enforcement officer although it is not 100% foolproof. False alarms will still occur from time to time and once you know how to differentiate the genuine alerts from the false ones, you’ll be alright; also when driving in city area, remember to switch to City mode to cut down the number of false alarms.

The Cobra XRS 9370 will be a great addition for any driver. With great pricing and a number of great features, this will be a good choice for those who do not want to burn a hole in their pocket. However, if you want a better option, a proven device to reduce false alerts, go for the Escort Passport 8500 X50.
